Bird Watching

There are a wealth of birds to be seen around Finca Isabella, often giving a breathtaking display above the patio.

Confirmed sightings of Sparrow hawk, Kestrel, Booted Eagle, Hoopoe, Golden Oriole, Woodchat Shrike and many more.

Ardales Lakes (some pictures above), Ronda and Fuente de la Piedra are within easy reach by car.

1. In and around Finca Isabella	Birds of prey: 2 dark-phase Buzzards (frequent) 2 (usually distant) Booted Eagle 1+ Black Kite Falcon types (peak count at any one time = 4 catching insects with feet and feeding on wing): 2+ Kestrels, 1 Hobby, 1 Lesser Kestrel plus 2 Sparrowhawks Other birds seen: Hoopoe, Black Redstart (pair), Jays (daily), Linnets, 2+ Sardinian Warbler, chiff-chaff, Pied and Grey Wagtails, pair Ravens, Serins, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Spotted and Spotless Starlings, House Sparrow, Blue Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker (inc family of 3 on tel post in front of patio); Hirundines – House and Crag Martins, Swallows and swifts.
2. Guadalhorce estuary	30+ Monk Parakeets in loose flocks; juv Booted Eagle (close-up); juv Night Heron, Kingfisher, Cetti’s Warbler, 2+ Zitting Cisticola, 2 Great white Egret, 2+ Purple Herons; 12+ Grey Heron, 12+ Cormorant, Little Grebe (heard); Hoopoe, Stonechat, Pied/white and Grey wags; Crested Lark Gulls (not too clear as over the river, driving rain and JCB digger in the way): Slender-billed Gulls (have seen these several times in Majorca and Portugal), Audoiun Gull, Black-headed, Y-L Herring, Lesser Black-backed; Terns: c2 Black Tern, Sandwich Terns (sev)
3. Ronda area	8+ chough, Stonechat, Black Wheatear, Linnets, flock of 100+ Rock Sparrows, wagtails
4. El Chorro area	several Griffon Vultures (some very close up), 3 Booted Eagles, poss Golden eagle, Black vulture, Choughs. Pair Thekla Larks displaying. Flock Crossbills, Great tit
5. Others	Pair Black wheatear displaying on Myas walls Monk Parakeet – 4 noisy birds at Malaga Kasbah.

Mountain Biking

There are many tracks within a 5 minute cycle of Finca Isabella, through Pine Forests offering spectacular scenery.

The course was designed by Seve Ballesteros. It includes an 18 hole par 72 course, an 18 hole pitch & put course, and a spectacular 9 hole par 3 course. Quite challenging reportedly...

Animal Parks

Within half - three quarters of an hour drive there is:-

Selwo Safari Park and Selwo Marine Park (different locations)

 

 

Crocodile Park

Horse riding - There are several local Riding Schools which offer from 1 hr to all day rides tailored for all abilities

 

Water parks - Fuengirola offers a family friendly water park for a full day of sun and exciting water adventures.

Fuengirola Zoo,

Marine Park and Tivoli World.

Beaches- La Cala is a popular sandy beach approximately half an hours drive away. Fuengirola also offers miles of sandy beaches.

Shopping - There are many local markets in and around Alhaurin El Grande. For the serious shoppers there are several under cover shopping malls offering some of the best shopping on the Costa del Sol.
